I first found Abraham listed in the 1810 census for Pennsylvania, Armstrong County, Buffalo Twp., along with a David Colmer and Conrad Colmer. I have no proof of the 3 of them being related. Abraham is next censused in Orange Twp., Meigs County, Ohio in 1820, with 6 daughters and 1 son. In 1830, he is listed with 1 son under 10 years of age, and 2 daughters in the 15-20 age range. Based on available census information, Abraham would have been born about 1770, as would his wife, Mary, last name unknown.
In his will, dated August 19, 1847, Abraham names his wife, son Lyman and "my 2 surviving daughters, Rhoda Walker and Ann Sherman.." as heirs, along with Charles, Morris, & Buckingham Humphrey, and Barnum B. Davis, who I believe are grandchildren. The will is witnessed and signed by James Rupill, David Whaley, and Daniel Walker.
The children of Abraham Colmer and Mary for whom I could find information are as follows:
1. Julia Ann Colmer, born 1815. She married Jonathan Sherman June 11, 1837 in Athens Co., Ohio. He was born in 1816 in New York. They had Leander, William, Melvin, Andrew Smith, and Charles H.
2. Rhoda Colmer. She married John Walker. The 1850 census for Athens Co., Carthage Twp.,Ohio shows John Walker age 53, farmer; Rhoda age 37; William age 12; James age 8; Marietta age 6
3. Margaret Colmer. She married John Humphrey November 25, 1831 in Coolville, Athens Co., OH. He was born Sept. 8, 1807 and died Oct. 26, 1838. They had Charles S., Morris, and Buckingham.
4. Susan Colmer. She married Mathew Barnum Davis September 11, 1828 in Meigs Co., OH. They had George and Barnum B.
5. Lyman Colmer b. March 3, 1829 in Orange Twp., Meigs Co., OH. d. June 30, 1892. He married Alma Ann Delaine Bosworth June 28, 1854. She was born Aug. 15, 1836 and died May 26, 1911. They had Laura, Julia, Delilah, Abraham, Eliza, Sarah, George, Mercy, Edgar, Mary, Wilbert and William.
As you can see, there are 2 daughters and 1 son missing in the list, according to the census records. I would appreciate any and all help with this line. Please use the email link below to contact me.
