I have found several references to James as being a "Jane" Hawk, and one suggests that "she may have died young." However, the 1850 census clearly shows "James, male, age 9", the 1860 census shows "James, age 18, male" living at home, and the 1880 census has James Hawk, age 38, with wife and family living just 7 houses away from Jacob D. and Mary. My greatgrandmother, Goldie Colmer, talks about "my Uncle Jim" in her journals and there are pictures of James' children among her keepsakes. He was still living in 1920. According to the 1910 census of Athens County, Chester Twp., Hannah gave birth to 9 children with 5 still living at that time, and she and James had been married 48 years.
