The 1830 Census, Alexandria Township, Hunterdon County New Jersey, shows : David P. Hawk - age 50-60; 2 males 20-30; 2 females 10-15; 1 female 15-20; 1 female 50-60 (Elizabeth), and in a row around David, Godfrey Hawk 40-50 (?); Jacob 20-30; William D. 30-40; Phillip 40-50 (?) and Joseph 70-80 (?).

1. We know that Jacob and William D. were David P's. sons.  Who were Godfrey, Phillip and Joseph?  Godfrey has continuous dealings with the family, even in OHIO.  At least one branch of the OHIO Hawk Families traces their origins back to a Phillip Hawk, and, is it possible that Joseph is the father of all of those mentioned?

2. Who is the Step son?  In reading the Will, it appears to be David Hawk.  David went early to OHIO, and made several trips back & forth.  He seems to have had little contact with the rest of the family.
3. What was Elizabeth's maiden name?  She obviously was married once before marrying David P. Hawk.  The 1850 census shows a Mary Thatcher and a Peter Raube living with David P. and Elizabeth.  Family, Friends, Borders?
4. Where was this family before coming to New Jersey?  William D. Hawk's death certificate lists David and Elizabeth as his parents, and indicates that both were born in the U.S.  Of course, there was no U.S. when David P. and Elizabeth were born, 1773 and 1772 respectively, but it indicates that both were born "over here". Did the families migrate "up from some point South?" or "down from "New england?"
